Springdale’s economy created 2,269 jobs through the month of July according to information obtained from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services. The 2,269 new jobs are a 45% increase over the 1,569 created through July of 2018.
“Our job creation numbers for 2019 are eye-popping,” said Perry Webb, Chamber president. “In the last decade we’ve seen our economy create more than 9,500 jobs, but a 45 percent jump this year is a significant indicator of how healthy our economy is and the amount of active investment and development we have. There aren’t many cities in America that can produce those job numbers while also having 2.7% unemployment.”
Regionally, Washington and Benton Counties’ largest cities have created 8,565 new jobs through July, 18% of the statewide jobs gain.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Springdale’s metro area saw a 7.1% jump in employment in professional and business services in July 2019 when compared to July of 2018. Information jobs (4.8%), government (4.3%) and construction positions (4.2%) also saw significant employment increases.
Earnings for Springdale’s metro have also climbed significantly since 2017. Average hourly earnings for our region through July 2019 are $23.38, a nine percent increase over 2018 and a 13% increase over 2017.
