The Geographic Center of Arkansas' Economic Engine
Springdale is the transportation hub of Northwest Arkansas with Interstate 540 and U.S. Highway 412 intersecting on the western edge of the city, the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport just minutes to the northwest and the popular Springdale Municipal Airport serving thousands of private and business customers from its downtown Springdale location.
The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) in nearby Highfill. This magnificent jewel, dedicated in 1998 and built at a cost of $107 million, ushered jet service to the region. The airport, served by six airlines, provides non-stop jet service to more than 15 major U.S. cities. New York, Newark, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Memphis, St. Louis and Charlotte, N.C., are all a non-stop jet flight away.
Springdale became an Interstate city in 2000 with the designation of U.S. 71 as I-540. The highway, located on the west side of town, links the area to I-40, 40 minutes to the south and I-44, about an hour to the north. Soon, a direct path from I-540 in north Springdale and the regional airport will become a reality, further enhancing the transportation infrastructure for residents and the business community alike.
U.S. 412 runs through the heart of the city. The four-lane highway links Northwest Arkansas to Tulsa, just 90 minutes to the west, and also travels across the northern edge of the state of Arkansas to Tennessee. On the drawing board are plans to build a 412 Bypass around the northern perimeter of Springdale, alleviating downtown traffic and providing an economic development boost to industry.
The Springdale Municipal Airport is the region's general aviation airport leader. With a runway of 5,300 feet, the facility serves industry and private flight needs alike. Springdale Municipal is also home to the area's top flight school - Drake Aviation Academy.
The region's short-line railroad - the Arkansas & Missouri - also calls Springdale home. Its depot and headquarters are located on Emma Avenue.
