BUILDING CODES, PERMITS & ZONING

You must confirm that city zoning regulations will allow you to operate your business in the location you have planned. You may also need permits to allow construction or renovation of a building.

SALES & USE TAX PERMITS

Retail operations, businesses who purchase at wholesale and sell at retail, and some service operations (primarily repairs) require a Sales and Use Tax Permit. This can be obtained from the Sales and Use Tax Section of the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. Their phone number is 501-682-7104.

OTHER CITY PERMITS

The Springdale City Clerk’s office issues other specific business-related permits that may or may not pertain to your business. Included in the list of permits issued by the City Clerk are: Taxi Driver’s License, Taxicab License, Retail Beer License, and Liquor License. Their phone number is 479-750-8119.

OTHER STATE PERMITS

The Arkansas Department of Health requires restaurants, food services or food manufacturing, and other types of personal consumption businesses to have permits. To find out if your business will need a permit call the Department of Health at 501-661-2000.

Business owners wishing to sell alcoholic beverages need to obtain a permit from the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). No new permits are available for a liquor store. A person must purchase an existing business. For applicable fees and permit information, call the ABC at 501-682-1105.

Air pollution, solid waste, stream pollution and water quality permits can be obtained from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. Their phone number is 501-562-7444.
